PUNE: City based Prabhudesai Eye Clinic has completed 25 years of dedicated service to eye care. As a part of its endeavor to ensure that patients get access to the most advanced treatment, Prabhudesai Eye Clinic has now installed innovative technology at it’s clinic to perform retinal evaluation without dilatation.
The information was given by well known ophthalmologist Dr Nitin
Prabhudesai, Founder Prabhudesai Eye Clinic. Dr Nitin Prabhudesai said that we started as a small
clinic in 1994 at Sadashiv Peth. Over the years we have always adopted to
latest technologies diagnosis and management of complex eye diseases,
offering state-of the-art infrastructure, surgical facilities, while at the
same time providing routine eye care.
Dr Prabhudesai informed that the latest technology
to perform retinal evaluation without dilatation which has been installed
at the clinic is in the form of a Laser based imaging system which scans almost
the entire Retina in a few minutes and can do this with normal pupils. It works
with the help of high end medical grade lasers which scans the Retina hence no
camera with flash light is required.
The technology is extremely safe, convenient and
comfortable and can be performed in a matter of seconds. The scans can also be
used for comparison later. This technology will save the pre examination and actual
examination time for individuals who opt it. It is especially useful for people
who are allergic to dilatation drops, intolerant to light & children.
What
is Eye Dilation ?
Pupil dilation is performed to purposefully increase
the size of the pupils during an eye exam so that the eye doctor can fully
examine the health of the optic nerve and retina. The exam is critical to
preventing and treating eye conditions that could potentially lead to vision
loss. Eye dilation assists your doctor in diagnosing common diseases and
conditions, possibly at their earliest stages.
They include Diabetes, High blood pressure, Macular
degeneration, Retinal detachment and Glaucoma. Eye dilation also makes your
vision blurry and your eyes more light sensitive, which, for a few hours, can
affect your ability to drive or work. Eye dilation can be sometimes greatly
inconvenient .Whether eye dilation during an exam is necessary depends on the
reason for your exam, your age, your overall health and your risk of eye
diseases.
