PUNE:
Nrityayatri
is bringing the saga with the next episode of the Ramayana – Choodamani
Pradanam. This follows the previous episode, Jatayu Moksham, where Sita is
abducted by Ravana and Jatayu is being killed while he tries to save her.
This vintage dance drama will held at Balgandharva
Auditorium on 22nd November 2019, 6.45 pm. At least 40 artists from Chennai
will participate in Choodamani Pradanam. The Vintage dance drama is a production
by The Kalakshetra Foundation, established by the Legendary Guru Rukmini Devi
Arundale in 1936. Revathi Ramchandran (Director, Kalakshetra Foundation) will
also be present at this event. Meghana Sabade (Founder, Nrityayatri Foundation,
informed about this dance drama through a press release.
In Choodamani Pradanam, the story continues –
where we see episodes like Rama lamenting for Sita – Rama & Lakshmana meet
Hanumana on the way – Vali Sugreeva battle – the coronation of Sugreeva –
Hanumana flying over the Bay of Bengal to Lanka in search of Sita – Ravana’s
encounter with Sita in the Ashokvanam – meeting of Sita and Hanumana – burning
of the Lanka – handing over Sita’s choodamani to Rama.
The artistry of this dance drama lies in the simple
yet classic backdrops depicting the different locations, forests and bay -the
use of Kathakali for the vaanarsena (monkey clan) - the sea green colour
costumes depicting the water life - Ravana’s fury - Sita’s helplessness – and
the wickedness of Rakshasis. The brilliant music score is by the maestro late S.
Rajaram.
Choodamani Pradanam will be presented on 22nd Nov
at 6.45 pm at Balgandharva
Rangamandir, Pune. Nrityayatri invites all to experience the extravagance.
