4/11/2019

PUNE: Giripremi’s Vivek Shivade and Jitendra Gaware climb Mt. Ama Dablam, a 6812-meter peak located in the Khumbu region, Nepal.

Mt. Ama Dablam is considered tougher peak to climb in comparison to Mt. Everest, the world’s tallest peak. Giripremi team reached the summit at dawn of October 29, 2019. Shivade and Gaware have a vast experience of high-altitude mountaineering and have climbed several high-altitude peaks, including Mt. Kangchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world.

Shivade and Gaware were two of the ten mountaineers from Giripremi who climbed Mt. Kangchenjunga in May 2019 under Giripremi’s Mt. Kangchenjunga Eco Expedition 2019. Both the mountaineers have been training under the guidance and mentorship of Umesh Zirpe, veteran mountaineer, and Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Awardee.

Zirpe was ecstatic about the success of Giripremi team. While admiring their hard efforts, he said, “Jitendra and Vivek are experienced and skilled mountaineers. I was confident about the successful summit of Mt. Ama Dablam. Both mountaineers have shown the exemplary skills of mountaineering by scaling the peak in quick time.” Zirpe also stressed on the technical aspect of climbing Mt. Ama Dablam.

According to him, Mt. Ama Dablam is a technically challenging peak to climb and It is usually compared to Mt. Everest in terms of climbing challenges. Mt. Ama Dablam is 6812- meter tall peak. It is located in the Khumbu region near Mt. Everest. Everest Base Camp trekkers can witness the breath-taking view of Mt. Ama Dablam throughout the EBC trek.

The southwest ridge of Mt. Ama Dablam is technically challenging to climb. The Camp 1 to Camp 3 route is standstill at an angle of 60 to 70 degrees. Climbers need to exercise ice climbing and rock climbing to reach higher altitude. Route after Camp 3 to summit becomes rockier with angle increases to almost perpendicular. Only skilled rock climbers can only climb the route after performing highest level of rock climbing. Thus, climbing Mt. Ama Dablam is a considered as a mile-stone in Himalayan mountaineering journey.
