PUNE:
Members
of Kothrud-based cultural forum Pune-Kashmir Sanskrutik Manch are awaiting
clearance from the state and the Union governments to organize Ganesh festival
in Kashmir.
The members of the forum said that the decision to
celebrate the festival in Kashmir was taken after the abrogation of the special
status for Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre earlier this month. At a news
conference, the group members said that, if granted permission, they would
invite the governor of Kashmir Satya Pal Malik for the inauguration ceremony to
be held in the first week of September.
“The motive for organizing this festival is to
ensure strengthened cultural ties between Maharashtra and Kashmir. We
believe an exchange of ideas between the two regions will help the overall
development of Kashmir,” said Shyam Deshpande, a member of the forum.
Another member Rahul Kaul said the cultural exchange will be bilateral. “The group also has plans to organize festivals of Kashmir in Pune. People would get to experience the lifestyle of the region through these events.”
