PUNE: Architects’ associations have written to PMC and PMRDA that their members should not be held responsible for accidents, such as wall collapse, at construction sites.
The organisations - Indian Institute of Architects, Architects Engineers and Surveyors Association, and Pune Architectural Consultant Association - have submitted letters to this effect to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
The letter states that action such as blacklisting or sending
notices for cancellation of their licences is not as per the law. “The
architects and structural engineers work as professional advisers. They give
advices from time to time to the developers. But the final decisions are taken
by the developers," stated the letter.
“We submitted the letters in the backdrop of advertisement
issued by government stating that the developer, contractor and architects
should ensure that accidents do not happen and steps for workers’ safety are
taken. We want that authorities to keep the architects away from these
responsibilities,” said Vishwas Kulkarni from the Architects Engineers and
Surveyors Association.
“The prescribed process has
been followed. We will send the matter pertaining to architects to the council.
The structural engineers are registered with us, and we will act against them,”
Prashant Waghmare, the city engineer, told pune-news.com.
