PUNE: Girish
Bapat on Friday said he would soon come out with a concrete agenda for the city
with priority on better transport and adequate water supply, a day after he won
the Pune Lok Sabha seat with a record margin of over 3.24 lakh votes.
Bapat said he was committed to execute the manifesto BJP
published for the city during the election campaign. He stressed all major
projects of the city would be put on fast track. Bapat defeated Congress’ Mohan
Joshi in a straight fight. His victory margin increased by almost 9,000 votes
in comparison to former MP Anil Shirole’s margin of 3.15 lakh votes in the 2014
Lok Sabh elections.
Elated by the thumping victory, Bapat said the 2019 Lok Sabh
polls was the fourth major election in the past five years wherein the city
voters expressed full faith in the BJP. The BJP-Sena vote base in the city has
surged to over 6.34 lakh.
Bapat said, “We shall ensure comprehensive development of the
city in the future. There will be sustainable efforts to execute the projects
stalled during the NCP-Congress regime.” He said the latest Lok Sabha polls was
the 11th election he had fought. “I have a habit of predicting my votes before
the counting. For the Lok Sabha polls, I had expected around 6.44 lakh votes
and settled at 6.32 lakh, with a slight drop. The victory was an outcome of the
relentless efforts of the partymen and alliance parties, including Shiv Sena,”
he said.
He said despite allegations of opponents he never resorted to
personal attack against them and tried to maintain decency during the campaign
with focus on development issues. Bapat, the incumbent district guardian
minister, said the city would soon get a new guardian minister, who would be
better than him in dealing with the issues. He said he would soon submit his
resignation from the post of MLA.
