PUNE: The much
awaited Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) is going to kick start tomorrow
in a grand opening ceremony to be held in City Pride, Kothrud.
In the opening event of the festival organized by Pune Film
Foundation and Government of Maharashtra, Govind Nihalani, renowned Director
and Dilip Prabhavalkar, renowned Actor-Writer will be felicitated at the hands
of Vinod Tawade, Cultural Minister, and Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary,
Chief Minister’s Office respectively, with PIFF Distinguished Award for
outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.
While Raamlaxman, renowned Musician will be felicitated with
S. D. Burman International Award for Creative Music and Sound at the hands of
Rohini Hattangadi, renowned Actor. Famous actors Sumit Raghavan and Kshitij
Date will anchor the event. The information is given by Dr. Jabbar Patel,
Director, PIFF.
The ceremony will start with a Tango performance by dancers Gladys Fernandez and Santosh Awatramani. The opening ceremony will be followed by a Spanish film ‘Damn Kids’ directed by Gonzalo Justiniano. This year being the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth Anniversary, PIFF is going to pay homage to him having it as a central theme.
