PUNE: PUNE:
Over 6,000 policemen will focus on “visible policing” to maintain law and order
during the New Year celebrations.
Commissioner of Police (CP), Pune, K Venkatesham told
newspersons, “There will be two types of arrangements on the New Year Eve - intensive
checking of vehicles at nakabandi points and extensive use of CCTV cameras. We
will make good use of body cameras, too.”
Venkatesham said, “We have 240 breath analysers, including 100 received from
the Pune Municipal Corporation, for checking drunk driving on roads. We
have launched a drive and prosecuted over 500 motorists for drunk driving as
there should be no fatal or serious accidents on December 31.”
He advised people not to create problems for others while
ushering in the New Year and warned them against drinking and driving vehicles
for their own safety and that of others.
People will have to seek police permission to play
loudspeakers at parties and functions. He said the traffic police had launched
the drive against two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets and penalised the rule
violators. He declined to specify if the drive would be intensified.
