PUNE: The
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has said that work of the
underground section will begin soon after completion of ongoing work of
preparation of shaft to insert tunnel boring machines.
The MahaMetro has planned underground metro work in two
parts. The tendering process to appoint a private agency for tunnelling work in
Agriculture college ground-Phadke Houd chowk section has been completed
recently. A kick-off meeting with the agency was conducted on Friday by MahaMetro
officials to discuss the execution plan.
The MahaMetro said that a detailed plan of the underground
work of Agriculture college ground-Phadke Houd chowk section was tabled by the
agency in the meeting. A discussion was held on various aspects of the work.
According to MahaMetro, an order will be placed soon for the
tunnel boring machines by the agency. About 3,392 rings will be installed in
the section. These rings will help maintain a similar size of the tunnel in the
entire stretch. The agency which is executing the work will soon set up a casting
yard and batching plant.
The underground section is part of metro's PCMC-Swargate
corridor which is 11.57 km long of which underground section will be in 5.09 km
stretch.
