PUNE: The
Kondhwa police arrested four software engineers, including a woman, for
allegedly abusing and threatening a woman traffic constable after she stopped
three of them for triple riding on a motorcycle.
One of the three men on the motorcycle called his wife, who is
also a techie, and she too allegedly abused the constable. The constable, Alka
Kamble (44), lodged a complaint against the four with the Kondhwa police
station.
The techies were arrested under sections 353 (assault or
criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 352 (punishment
for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) and 506
(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. "The engineers were
produced before the court and sent to the Yerawada central prison," said
senior inspector Milind Gaikwad of the Kondhwa police station.
Gaikwad said that on Saturday morning, Kamble and her
colleague, Prashant Pilankar, were manning traffic in the Kondhwa area.
"Around 10.15am, Kamble noticed the three engineers on the motorcycle and
stopped them. When she asked the person riding the motorcycle for his name,
address, driving licence and registration documents of the vehicle, he and the
other two engineers abused her and Pilankar. They also demanded that Kamble
show them her identity card," he said.
