SPPU secures data from hacking and calamities

16/6/2018

PUNE: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity which has taken up the task of securing the varsity’s entire digital data collated over the years comprising student details as well as information, from hacking and natural calamities.

A statement issued by the SPPU said a team headed by the vice chancellor Nitin Karmalkar recently visited a university in south India where the MoU was signed. The SPPU is probably the first in the country to take this step forward.

As per the MoU, the southern university will save SPPU’s information as backup. It has also constructed the required infrastructure for securing the data. As a result the SPPU has equipped itself to face any type of calamity, natural or man-made.

Karmalkar said, “Many prominent companies in the country from different sectors often implement this facility of business continuity. This is considered as one of the most sensitive aspects of data security. The MoU’s tenure is five years but it could be extended further.”
