Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupé |
PUNE: Mercedes-Benz, India’s biggest luxury carmaker introduced the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupé priced at Rs 2.55 crore (Pan India) to take on compatriot rivals like BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo in Asia’s third largest car market.
The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupé boasts of technical and visual
highlights with a more powerful engine and a distinct look to woo buyers. The
Pune-headquartered automobile major had recently launched the range-topping,
performance version of the E-Class in the country. The latest launch marks
Mercedes-Benz India’s seventh in the country this year to keep the heat on its
competitors. The Rs 2.55 crore imported Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe of the German
auto major rivals the likes of the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Bentley
Continental GT on price and power in the country.
However, its compatriot archrival BMW is readying its M8
Coupe, based on the recently revealed 8-series, for an international launch
later this year. An India-entry of this model would see it compete against the
Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe. The S 63 shares its 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 power train
with the smaller E 63 S 4 Matic+, though the output figures on the S-class are
higher.
In the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe, the motor makes over 612 hp
and 900 Nm of peak torque (50 Nm more than the E 63 S) and is mated to a
nine-speed automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. The engine’s
two, twin-scroll turbos are meant to improve response while the motor also gets
a cylinder deactivation system for improved fuel economy figures.
The engine is capable of powering the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe
to 100 kmph from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds, on account of a Race Start
function and a top speed limited to 250 kmph. The AMG Driver’s package
increases that limit to 300 kmph. “With the launch of Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupé,
we are strengthening our lead in the performance and dream car line-up in
India,” Michael Jopp, vice president, sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz
India, said.
He said it was its perpetual effort to bring in new technology
and elements of luxury in its existing vehicles. “The new AMG S 63 Coupé hosts
breakthrough technology and enhanced appearance, which sets a benchmark in the
segment, and makes it even more desirable,” Jopp boasted. The launch of new S
63 Coupé is a strategic decision after the introduction of new S-Class, which
received a great response from its customers, he said.
Inside, the new S 63 Coupe is available with Nappa leather,
AMG badges on the front- and rear-seat backrests and on the three-spoke
steering wheel and a 12.3-inch TFT widescreen colour display.
This screen displays information such as engine and
transmission oil temperature, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, the engine
output and torque, boost pressure, and tyre temperatures and pressures.
