PUNE: Two
flights to Chandigarh - one each of Air India and Jet Airways - were
cancelled on Friday because of poor visibility and dust there.
An official of Air India said, “The flight (AI-814) from Pune
to Chandigarh was slated to take off at 12.20 pm. The same aircraft flies from
Mumbai to Chandigarh earlier and comes to Pune. After taking off from Mumbai,
the plane hovered above Chandigarh for close to 45 minutes. All attempts to
land the aircraft in Chandigarh failed and the flight was diverted to Delhi.
The decision to cancel the Pune-Chandigarh flight was taken thereafter. On
Thursday, the flight was diverted to Delhi.”
The Jet Airways flight to Chandigarh was set to take off from
Pune at 11.40am. “It was cancelled because of the weather conditions in
Chandigarh,” an airport official told pune-news.com. The airline said an alert was sent to the passengers
beforehand and were given alternative options, including refunds.
A total of 26 Chandigarh-bound flights from across the country
were cancelled on Friday because of poor visibility and dust there for the
second consecutive day.
