PUNE: Crispin Simon, the new UK deputy high commissioner-director general, UK department for international trade, said that the Pune region offered immense trade potential and plethora of opportunities in the field of automotives and information technology (IT) as part of bilateral trade between India and the UK.

Simon was in Pune to review business and investments by the British trade office, Pune, which is a part of the British high commission in India. Simon, who also holds the role of director general for trade, economics and commercial diplomacy, with overall responsibility for UK-India economic and commercial relationships, said that both India and the UK have a very strong and vibrant business partnership where fields like automotives, higher education, academic research and development, artificial intelligence and technology had a wide scope for further exploration by the two countries. Currently, three hundred British companies are operating on Indian soil in different forms, like joint ventures, collaborations , partnerships and other modes contributing to economic growth between the nations.

Referring to Pune, he specifically said that Hinjewadi offered good investment potential as it was the IT hub in the “citadel of education.” “Pune has rich history of culture, tradition, business and is a very impressive investment destination for investors. The companies based here have global potential and capabilities which they have demonstrated time and again. Just like JCB has become one of the biggest global supply chain companies in Pune. Similarly, Kirloskar Pumps has also made its mark at the global level. Ultimately, what matters is quality products which give the companies an edge over competitors,” Simon said.

Simon further added that the two countries were poised to take rapid business strides under the visionary goals of their respective prime ministers. “We will keep adding value to each other as business partners and keep engaging on multiple business fronts. We will conduct international business conference to increase the level of engagement with special focus on technology ,” he added.
