PUNE: civic
officials and Pune Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will make a
presentation to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis about the plan to procure 500
electric buses for the city. The tenders will be issued after the meeting an
official said.
“We are making a presentation on how to make the electric
air-conditioned buses more cost effective compared to the current public
transport. Details about the price and other facilities, which can be given to
operators, are being discussed,” PMC corporator Siddharth Shirole said.
Shirole, also a PMPML director, said international tenders will
be floated. The size of the fleet has been increased so that more and more
bidders come forward. Power tariff subsidies are an option to reduce
operational cost, he said.
PMC officials said the civic body plans to provide a 25-acre plot for parking and maintenance of these vehicles. The Pune Smart City Development Corporation limited (PSCDCL) is also contemplating purchasing 31 electric buses, which it will give the transport body.
