PUNE: Maharashtra Government, International School Sport Federation and School Games
Federation of India, Delhi has jointly organised World School Badminton
Championship, 2018 from April 20 at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex,
Mahalunge Balewadi in Pune.
The tournament will conclude on April 24. “The
championship will see players from 16 nations fighting for the title,” said
Narendra Sopal, Joint Director of Maharashtra State Sports and Youth Services
Commission during the press conference. Also present on the occasion were Laetitia
Picard, TC President Badminton and Norbert Kever, Sports Director,
International School Sport Federation.
The Championship will take place at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati
Sports Complex badminton hall. Each team will have 10 players – 5 boys and 5
girls, they will be accompanied by sports advisors, managers and technical
officials. The championship will see the participation of 200 players, 64
coaches, 32 managers along with 80 umpires and technical officials. The
championship will be played between Under-18 category for boys and girls
respectively. Kinder+Sport is an official partner of International
School Sport Federation
Sixteen countries will take part in the tournament.
Participating countries are Turkey, UAE, Croatia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil,
Chinese Taipei, France, China, England, Greece, Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy
along with India 'A' and India 'B'. The Opening Ceremony will take place
on April 20 at 10 am while closing ceremony and prize distribution
will be held on April 24.
Maharashtra Badminton Association will handle the technical
aspects of the tournament. All the respective arrangements are made readily
available at Balewadi Sports Complex. Total 118 ties of more than 500 matches
will be played on 12 badminton courts during five days. All badminton lovers
are invited to be the part of the championship.

Venkatesh (Kerala), Anisha Vashe (Madhya Pradesh), Kokantee Vennlaa (Andhra
Pradesh), Tanishka Deshpande (Maharashtra), Alifya Basari (Karnataka).
