PUNE: The Khadki
Cantonment Board (KCB) decided to seal a gymnasium operating at Range
Hills and sought requisite documents for the contract renewal of five other
facilities operating within in its jurisdiction.
A decision to this effect was taken at the board’s general
body meeting. According to a report tabled by the KCB’s nominated member, Colonel
A S Katiyar, the gymnasiums neither had proper documents nor were following the
norms set by the board.
The move to seal the gymnasium evoked a sharp reaction from a
section of the board members, who staged a walk out. There were heated
arguments between KCB vice-president Abhay Sawant and member Suresh Kamble
on one side, and member Vaishali Pahilwan. KCB CEO Amol Jagtap intervened and
convinced protesting members to attend the meeting. These members were
insisting on constituting a panel to study the issue before taking a final
call.
KCB president Brigadier Dhiraj Mohan informed members that
operators would have to submit their documents and renew contracts in a month.
“It’s a long pending matter and a decision was imperative to send a stern
message to those not paying attention to the norms. We can’t leave the matter
pending for long,” Mohan said in his reply to the board.
According to Sawant, KCB authorities never asked for such
documents in the past. A nominated member countered this by pointing out that
as per the terms and conditions, it was mandatory for gym operators to renew
their contracts annually. “If not, they should be closed,” the member said.
