PUNE: Over a
lakh eggs and 6,000kg of chicken will be consumed in three days by 750 people
under one roof in the city. Sounds like an attempt to some record, but it will
be diet “as usual” for the participants at the 11th Mr India Senior Men and
Women’s Body Building Championship. They will be staying at hotel Orchid in
Balewadi.
The national meet from Saturday will see over 600 participants
- the highest in the history of the championship. With 300 officials, they will
stay in the hotel near Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Mhalunge. There
are around 150 local participants. They will not be staying in the hotel.
General secretary of Indian Body Building Federation, Chetan
Pathare, said the number may sound huge, but this is the basic for a three-day
event. “During the championship, the participants will have a zero-carb, high
protein diet. We have so many athletes and officials. We will be providing them
three meals a day. Each meal will consist of eggs and chicken only,” Pathare
told pune-news.com.
Food and beverages manager at the hotel, Soumitra Kundu, said
the quantity of eggs and chicken is almost eight times more than the usual days
at the hotel. “Normally, a person consumes around 200-250 grams of chicken in
one meal. The body builders will consume around 1,500 grams in each meal and
there will be three meals per day for one person,” Kundu said.
Since the booking was done well in advance, supply won’t be a
problem. “Before competition, body
builders train for almost five hours in the gym, so all the calories are
digested easily. This is not unusual, said Barun, a member of the CRPF team.
Maharashtra will field 44 participants
in the meet. They will face stiff competition from Railways body builders, who
won the title in the last edition. Sunit Jadhav, Nitin Mhatre, Sagar Katurde,
Akshay Mogarkar, Atul Amre and Mahendra Chavan are prominent names in the
hosts’ team.
