26/2/2018

PUNE: The Sinhagad police on Sunday arrested an
assistant engineer working with public service broadcaster Doordarshan after he was found sunbathing in the nude at Sinhagad fort.

Members of the Rashtrashakti Samajik Sanghatana, a social organisation, had gone to the fort for a cleanliness drive when they spotted Lateef Saiyad, evidently intent on getting an even tan all over, near the Doordarshan building.

Sinhagad police have booked under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for conducting deliberate and malicious acts intending to outrage religious feelings, insulting religion or religious beliefs and Section 509 for insulting the modesty of women by making gestures.

Swapnil Jambhle (23), a resident of Haveli, has lodged a complaint against Saiyad. According to Jambhle, the Rashtrashakti Samajik Sanghtana had organised a cleanliness drive at Sinhagad on Sunday morning and there were around 20 members present, including some women.

The group suddenly spotted Saiyad while passing by the Doordarshan office, sleeping on a chair in the sun a stitch of clothing on him. When Jambhle and other members started questioning him, he went into the building.

The members immediately informed the Sinhagad police and demanded for his arrest. Said Jambhle, “He is a government employee and his conduct is an insult to our religious beliefs and the sentiments of all the social organisations in Pune district. We also found liquor bottles at the same spot and have demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter.”
