PUNE: The
city's minimum temperature touched the 10°C-mark on Thursday, giving citizens a
chill feeling on the day the St Patrick’s Cathedral organised its
Christmas float ushering in the Yuletide spirit.
On Thursday, the mercury plunged to 10.5°C - the lowest temperature of the post-monsoon and winter season so far in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated a rise in minimum temperature by a degree or so during the next couple of days. The minimum temperature may dip to 10°C on December 24 and again climb to 11°C on the Christmas Day, an IMD forecast said.
A K Srivastava , the head of the climate monitoring and analysis group, IMD, Pune, told pune-news.com that cold northerly winds had begun to flow over northern and central parts of Maharashtra with the easterly influence becoming negligible.
"The jet stream, which is the upper-level strong and cold wind, is passing through Gujrat and Maharashtra and causing a dip in temperatures here. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around the normal range for the next couple of days," Srivastava said.
