Hotelier succumbs to road rage attack injuries

PUNE: The Sinhagad police late on Saturday night were interrogating two persons for their suspected involvement in assaulting a hotelier from Satara on October 6.

The hotelier identified as Abhaysinh alias Aba Uttam Godse (38) of Waduj village in Khatav taluka of Satara district later succumbed to his injuries in Satara. The police suspect that it was a case of road rage which turned ugly.

Godse was brutally assaulted by occupants of another car somewhere between Vadgaon bridge and Mutha river bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass while he was returning to Satara. The Satara police had initially registered a case of accidental death, but after realising that the injuries on his body were due to a brutal attack, they transferred the case to Pune city police.

After identifying the place where the attack took place, the case was handed over to the Sinhagad Road police station. The suspects were picked up on the basis of their car's registration number which Godse had informed his family members.

Police said Godse, who runs a hotel business in Satara, had come to Pune to look for a chef who could prepare Chinese dishes. He was returning home after a day-long stay in Pune.

Godse was travelling in his car to Satara when the suspects brought his car to a halt over an issue of 'overtaking'. The enraged suspects then beat up Godse with clubs. Godse, however, continued to drive and succumbed to his injuries later.
