PUNE: The
Yerawada police arrested a gymnasium trainer after a 34-year-old woman lodged a
complaint of sexual harassment and blackmailing against him.
As per the complainant, gymnasium trainer Sarvar Shaikh (33)
exploited her sexually over the last four years. He also threatened to upload
objectionable pictures of the woman on social media if she did not continue the
physical relationship with him.
The woman and her husband, residents of Nashik, had shifted to
Pune for employment in 2013 with their two children. While the woman picked up
a job as a make-up artist, her husband started working in an IT firm. The woman
later joined a gymnasium and hired training services of Shaikh. "The woman
and the suspect became good friends over a period of time. Taking advantage of
this friendship, the suspect forced her to have physical relationship with
him," police said.
"On one such occasion, Shaikh mixed some sedatives in the
woman's food and shot her nude photographs. When the woman decided to
discontinue the relationship, he told her that he would upload her pictures on
social media if she did not continue the relationship with him," police
said.
In 2014, the couple to Bengaluru. However, the suspect
continued calling her up on her cellphone and also sent the woman's pictures to
her sister via Whatsapp. "Fed up with his regular harassment, the
woman lodged the complaint against him," police said.
Inspector (crime) Ashok Kadam of the Yerawada police on
Wednesday said, "We have arrested the suspect under section 376 (2)
(punishment for rape) among other charges of the IPC and Information Technology
Act. We have also recovered the cellphone of the suspect."
Shaikh will stay in police custody remand till October 20.
