11/08/2017

PUNE: A 53-year-old professor and PhD guide was arrested by Kothrud Police for molesting and sexually harassing an Iranian student in his college room earlier in the afternoon after promising to enrol her for a doctoral programme.

The professor was arrested under section 354 (molestation) of the IPC. He teaches in a college run by a deemed university in the city. In her complaint, the woman said the professor told her that there would not be any trouble in securing admission if she maintained sexual relations with him. Police inspector Shankar Khatke said the woman came to Pune in December 2016 on a student visa.

The woman began to visit the professor to seek his guidance about getting her an admission. On Wednesday afternoon, she went to the college to meet the professor to find out if there was any development regarding the admission.

"The professor told her the enrolment would take some more time. He then demanded sexual favours from her and molested her in the room," Khatke said.
