Two killed in ordnance factory explosion near Pune

PUNE: Two persons were killed after a blast ripped through the Ammunition Factory in Khadki on Thursday morning.

The cause of the explosion, which occurred in the F2 section of the factory between 9.15 and 9.30 a.m., is being ascertained, said officials.The deceased, identified as Ashok Dubal (52) and Maria Rok (48) were both long-time workers in the factory. Both are believed to be residents of the city’s Rangehills area, sited near the Ordnance Factory.

Officials at the  Ordnance Factory said that a team would probe whether the blast was a result of human error or technical malfunction. The inquiry would also establish whether standard operating procedures (SOPs) were followed by the deceased, said authorities.
