PUNE: The Bharati

polishers and stole ornaments. Police recovered 280g of gold worth Rs 8.8
lakh from them.

Mohammed Shaikh (28), Rajesh Pandit (20), Sachinkumar Gupta (33), Munnakumar
Shah (31) Mohammed Zakir (24) and Mohammed Rafique Mohammed Zakir (25). All
eight are from Bhagalpur district in Bihar. They were staying in Alandi.Their
accomplices are still at large.
With these arrests, the police have solved 12 jewellery theft
cases. A team led by senior inspector Vijaysinh Gaikwad and inspector Rajkumar
Waghchoure made the arrests since May 30."Bhagat and Yadav were the brains
of the operation. We suspect they had brought several men from Bihar. The
suspects used to visit houses in the afternoon when, normally , housewives are
alone," said Pravin Mundhe, deputy commissioner of police (Zone II)
"They would polish utensils to gain their victims'
confidence. Then they would convince them to bring out their jewellery for
polishing, divert their attention and flee with the ornaments," Mundhe
said.
"Our investigation is ongoing. We were able to bust the gang thanks to a tip received by constable Mahesh Mandlik," Mundhe added. He appealed to the public not to fall for such traps, and to get ornaments polished at authorized shops.
