PUNE: All three distinguished cadets of the 132 course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) are students of Sainik Schools from their respective states.

Cadets Vaibhav S Saini, Sanyam Dwivedi and Akash K R were presented with the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, at the passing out parade of the course. Vaibhav’s great grandfather Dhari Saini fought in the World War 2 and was killed in action.

Vaibhav, who is from Sonipat, Haryana, told pune-news.com, "Ever since I joined the Sainik School, it was my dream to join the NDA. I didn't dream of winning the gold medal but hard work has paid off." Vaibhav has decided to opt for the infantry arm of the Indian army on completion of his one-year training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.

Silver medalist Sanyam is from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He will be commissioned into the Indian Navy after completing his training at the Indian Navy Academy (INA). "The training at NDA was tough but I could complete it because of my instructors' and fellow cadets' support," he said.

Bronze medalist Akash KR is a student of Sainik School, Kazhakootam. He said, "I like flying since childhood and hence I decided to join the Air Force. I would like to become a fighter pilot of single cockpit aircraft as it offers freedom while flying."
