PUNE: The
Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday filed a complaint of
disproportionate assets against former deputy director of sports and youth
services Manik Thosare for allegedly abusing his official position at Balewadi Sports
Complex.
Police authorities checked Thosare's property details and found that he earned
around Rs17 lakh from non-descript sources, which he used to buy 15 guntha land
in Mulshi. ACB has also filed cases against his wife Lata Babulal Gupta Thosare
and another woman.
According to ACB officials, Balewadi assigned the job of
providing accommodation and food to the sportsmen who participated in Asian
Athletics Championships in Pune in 2013. Sportsmen from different Asian
countries had participated in the event.
For the purpose, he was supposed to book rooms in good hotels
and it has been alleged that he demanded commission from the hotels. He also
prepared fake and fabricated documents to open bank accounts and used the
name of a woman suspect in the case. He obtained commission of Rs 16.16 lakh
from the hotels and deposited the money in the account of the woman.
