PUNE: The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday filed a complaint of disproportionate assets against former deputy director of sports and youth services Manik Thosare for allegedly abusing his official position at Balewadi Sports Complex.

Police authorities checked Thosare's property details and found that he earned around Rs17 lakh from non-descript sources, which he used to buy 15 guntha land in Mulshi. ACB has also filed cases against his wife Lata Babulal Gupta Thosare and another woman.

According to ACB officials, Balewadi assigned the job of providing accommodation and food to the sportsmen who participated in Asian Athletics Championships in Pune in 2013. Sportsmen from different Asian countries had participated in the event.

For the purpose, he was supposed to book rooms in good hotels and it has been alleged that he demanded commission from the hotels. He also prepared fake and fabricated documents to open bank accounts and used the name of a woman suspect in the case. He obtained commission of Rs 16.16 lakh from the hotels and deposited the money in the account of the woman.
