PUNE: While
many are focussing on what Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai are wearing at Cannes Film Festival, Pune
girl Payal Kapadia too
deserves some limelight.
Her short film Afternoon
Clouds is the only Indian entry at this reputed festival amongst the 2600 films
submitted. Her film was selected in the Cinefondation category, a space created
to inspire and support the next generation of filmmakers.
The film is set in the house
of a 60-year-old woman Kaki who lives with her Nepali maid. Over the course of
the film, Malti encounters upon an unexpected face, that of a sailor boy. This
13-minute short film features Usha Naik and Trimala Adhikari in the lead roles.
What sets the film apart is that it has not been shot digitally but it is
recorded on film. It was filmed as a dialogue exercise and it has been shot
within four walls.
