PUNE: The state
health department has issued an advisory to all municipal corporations and
private physicians through the Indian Medical Association (IMA) alerting
them about the signs and symptoms of Zika virus infection. It has particularly
asked them to remain alert about pregnant women presenting with high fever.
The notice was sent soon after the WHO issued a statement on
Saturday stating the Union health ministry had informed them of three confirmed
Zika infections in Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, during routine
surveillance.
The cases were found between February 2016 and January this
year. The WHO, however, was informed only on May 15, while the local health
authorities of Ahmedabad were never officially told about the confirmed cases.
