2 February 2017

PUNE: The Wanowrie police are investigating a complaint by two businessmen who were allegedly assaulted and robbed of gold chains and cash totally worth Rs 3.08 lakh by three college students on Tuesday while trying to sneak into Empress Garden from the rear entrance.

Police said businessmen Sameer Punekar and Sumit Ahir were caught up in a dispute with the suspects, two of whom were detained on Wednesday. However, no recovery was made from them. All three suspects are minors and standard XII students. One of the detained suspects lives in the same building as Ahir's, police said.

When questioned about sneaking in from the rear end of the garden, the two men said they wanted to avoid paying the entrance fee. However, police are no
t fully convinced by their response, it being odd for two businessmen to avoid paying a paltry sum for entry.

A juvenile court released the two detained suspects on bail. "We are waiting for the third suspect's detention. It will get us a clear picture of the case. Also, we need to know if the cash and gold chains are in possession of the third suspect," investigating officer Devidas Kungar of Wanowrie police told pune-news.com

According to police, the trio hit Punekar and Ahir with stones and robbed four gold chains and cash from them. They sustained minor injuries. Punekar later registered a complaint.
